About the photographer

I have always loved photography. My first passion was landscape photography, and Colorado was a great place to be in my 20's for that. I started taking lessons, including a week-long photography workshop in the mountains of Steamboat Springs, CO back in the olden days film! But everything shifted when my son was born and I fell in love with capturing people. I started doing portrait sessions for friends and even shot a few weddings.

Life got beautifully busy after moving back to Indiana. Teaching full time and raising three kids didn't leave a lot of room for much else, though my own children have always been my most willing, and sometimes not so willing, subjects.

A couple of summers ago, I was lucky enough to receive a renewal grant that gave me the gift of time. I became a photography student again, this time studying something I was truly passionate about. I took lessons, picked up my camera, and headed out west to Glacier, Yellowstone, the Tetons, and Rocky Mountain National Park, inspired by a national parks project I had taught my own students. It was the trip that reminded me why I love this so much.

That experience made the decision easy. It was time to stop dreaming and start doing. And so, Connecting Lens was born.

My years in the classroom have given me something that no workshop ever could: a natural ease with kids. I know how to make them laugh, how to keep them moving, and how to capture them exactly as they are. And as a mom of two teenage boys and one very spunky girl, I can promise you that rowdiness and attitude do not scare me one bit. For families, I know that can make all the difference.

I am based in Bloomington, Indiana, and honestly, this town is a photographer's dream. From the rolling hills and wooded trails to the stunning architecture of campus, there is no shortage of beautiful backdrops for your session. I love shooting on location and am always happy to help you find the perfect spot.

I would love to be your photographer. Whether you are a Bloomington local or just passing through, reach out and let's connect to make something beautiful together.
